SIUT Conducts 50th Voluntary Summer Program

KARACHI-  As many as 176 student volunteers were awarded certificates in a ceremony held at Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT), upon completion of the 50^th batch of a week long students’ voluntary summer program, exercising various community services.

This program is organized by SIUT, that is conducted during the summer and winter vacations for various educational institutions of the country, with an aim to motivate and train students to perform civic duties for the society, on a large scale.

The closing ceremony of the program was presided over by Director SIUT Prof Adib Rizvi, alongside a prominent social worker Ms. Kishwer Zehra, founder of student volunteer program of SIUT.

Highlighting the importance of volunteerism in society, Prof. Adib Rizvi reminded the volunteers regarding their responsibilities towards the society, and to tackle a variety of present issues, ranging from poverty to maintaining the well-being of our general population. He also discussed the basic principles of community services, and to instill compassion within.

Kishwar Zehra also highlighted the importance of social responsibility and requested the volunteers to serve the underprivileged members of their community.

Prof Anwar Naqvi recounted the background of SIUT volunteer program and the overwhelming response it received from public.

During the training sessions, students belonging to various levels were associated with different departments including OPD’s, department of radiology, clinical laboratory, oncology, dialysis, transplantation, lithotripsy, medical and surgical sciences. The participants also engaged with the admitted patients and patients visiting the outpatient department.

A total number of 6136 students have so far benefited from this program, since its inception in year 2006.

The event also included junior & senior volunteers’ speeches, patient performances, life stories of transplant and dialysis patients, followed by certificates and gifts distribution.

The concluding ceremony was largely attended by teachers, parents, students and staff members of SIUT including doctors from across the city.
