CHK gets Fibro Scanner

Karachi: The Civil Hospital Karachi got the first ever Fibro-scan machine in public sector which will help in timely and correct diagnoses of chronic liver disease.

Fibro-scan is a modern machine which gives information which previously was possible through liver biopsy only and the best thing is that there is no intervention. Liver diseases like; Hepatitis C & B were very common in Sindh province and this machine will bring the much needed relief for the patients. The tests are conducted through computerized system without any risks involved in the process and is a good step towards patient management.

The machine provides assessment for normal liver function, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Alcoholic, Non-Alcoholic, post-liver transplantation and prevalence of breast cancer in women. Presently Fibro Scan is installed at Aga Khan Hospital and the charges are around Rs 13,000 to 15,000 per patient.

The good news is that at CHK patients will get free of cost diagnosis and it will provide accurate severity of liver disease and monitor progress of treatments.
