Dengue Claims Another Life in Karachi

KARACHI- This year’s second death from dengue fever was recently reported at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), where a 60-year old man succumbed to the deadly virus.


The 60-year old man, Muhammad Khalil s/o Muhammad Shakil, resident of North Karachi, was brought to Aga Khan Hospital on October 11th ‘2018, and died on same day. As per the hospital staff, the patient was suffering from high-grade fever and was diagnosed with Dengue fever.


In April ‘2018, an elderly woman namely Akraman Mai, resident of Surjani Town, Karachi, also died in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) due to Dengue viral fever.


According to the weekly report issued by Prevention and Control Program for Dengue in Sindh, at least 25 new dengue fever cases were recorded in Karachi, taking the toll to 969 cases in the city, since January 1st 2018. No new case was reported from the others districts of Sindh province.


In the month of October till date, a total number of 41 Dengue positive cases have been reported from Karachi.


This year, a total of 1,024 dengue cases surfaced across the province of Sindh, out of which 969 were reported from Karachi and 55 from the other districts Sindh.
