High Prevalence Of Neurological And Mental Disorders In Men: Researchers Claim

KARACHI- According to a study performed at the University of Maryland, UK; Men are more prone to developing neurological and neuro-psychiatric disorders like, autism and schizophrenia diseases, whereas women tend to suffer from depression and anxiety.


Genders may play an important role in determining the affinity of whether or not; one will suffer from neurological and mental disorders, or problems like hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis.


Neuro-developmental disorders are basically are known as brain function disorders, that affects a human’s emotion, learning ability, self-control and memory. To understand this variation among genders, the researchers focused on a molecule, which plays a vital role in placental health.


Neuro-developmental disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders, early onset schizophrenia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), greatly affect a large percentage of males; as they are found to be more sensitive to prenatal insults, such as gestational stress, maternal infection and drug exposure. However, women are prone to developing depression or anxiety disorders, due to genetic and or environmental factors.
