KARACHI- Health department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to set up monitoring system in its two hospitals - Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Sobhraj Maternity Hospital - to check and control incidences of baby-lifting and theft of medicines.

Under the monitoring plan, KMC health department would install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in its both the health care facilities by June 2015.

According to KMC’s health & medical services senior director, Dr Salma Kausar Ali, the CCTV cameras will be installed at both the hospitals by Sindh’s finance department under public-private partnership.

The CCTV cameras will be installed in all departments of the hospitals, the sources said, adding that trained security guards would also be deployed in both the institutions for the protection of patients, doctors, nurses, paramedics and other employees.

The sources opined that the CCTV camera footage will help the police and security guards to identify the anti-social elements who indulge in unlawful activities such as kidnapping of children and theft of medicines, etc.

The monitoring system to be established at both the hospitals would, on the one hand, help in curbing such incidents and, on the other, will help in ensuring presence of doctors, paramedical staff and nurses in the hospitals.
