Medical Treatment in Future will Be Different, Says Expert

KARACHI- Recent discoveries as an outcome of successful research in the world of bio-medical sciences will soon provide an exciting time for the human society by bringing permanent cure from various ailments.
This was stated by Prof Magdi Mohammad Yaqub the visiting Professor of Nephrology from William Harvey Research Institute of London during a lecture on "Heart Diseases in Kidney Failure” which he delivered at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).
Giving the details he identified many chronic diseases which are going to be benefited by treatment including treatment of any kidney failure and general disorders like the ailment of thalassemia. A system of targeted delivery of medicines to a specific part of human body is in process of development he disclosed. The system will be innovative and revolutionary commented Prof Yaqub.
The visiting professor while highlighting successful results obtained from research said soon it would be possible to use stem cell technology to repair damaged organs. Giving details of more positive results obtained, he said another leap forward is in the ailment of Thalassemia which is common in children with no cure can but now be treated by single gene replacement technology.
Prof Yaqub said the results obtained in research would bear fruit in next five to ten years. Earlier, the lecture was dedicated to the memory of Professor Kirpal Singh Chugh known as the father of Nephrology in the subcontinent who passed away in Chandigarh (India) recently. Prof Chugh was considered amongst 50 icons of nephrology in the world. He was a friend of SIUT and had made six visits to the Institute in all major conferences since 1990.
