KARACHI- During a joint press conference held at PMA House, Karachi, the PMA strongly rejected the Ordinance 2019 passed by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), as they believe it will put Pakistan’s healthcare system and medical profession in jeopardy.
Following this disagreement, PMA has demanded the concerned authorities of Federal Government to withdraw this ordinance on an immediate basis.
President PMA Centre, Dr Ikram Ahmed Tunio, Secretary General PMA Centre, Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Treasurer PMA Centre, Dr Qazi Wasiq, General Secretary PMA Sindh, Dr Pir Manzoor Ali, President PMA Karachi, Dr Khalil Mukaddam, Chairman Editorial Board JPMA, Dr Jamil Siddiqui and General Secretary PMA Karachi, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro were present at the press conference.
According to this new ordinance, there will be a 17-member council, nominated either by Prime Minister of Pakistan or the Provincial Governments, CPSP and Armed Forces.
Dr Ikram Ahmed Tunio stated that the new PMDC Ordinance was undemocratic, and the proposed 17-member body would cause irregularities, as witnessed over the years.
Whilst addressing the press, Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad shed light upon ‘Section 3 of PMDC Ordinance 1962’ which was now being violated.
An ex-member of PMDC, Dr Jamaluddin Sheikh also shared his views on this serious matter and reminded all authoritative figures to learn from prior mistakes and work together to save our country’s future n medicine.
All members of PMA requested the civil society to come forward and raise voice against this illegal and unconstitutional ordinance.
They demanded immediate elections as per constitution of PMDC, with transparency.
