Eminent Surgeons, Prof Dr. Naushad A Sheikh, Dr. Shahab Baig, Dr. Faisal, Dr. Mazhar Nizam and other support staff performed Muhammad Essa’s first surgery, which continued for three hours.

Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ruth KM Pfau CHK, Dr. Muhammad Taufiq, stated that, a team of surgeons led by Prof Dr. Naushad Shaikh and others have removed a part of the tumor from the leg of the young individual, resident of Nooriabad, Jamshoro District.

He further informed that, M. Essa Palari is showing signs of improvement after his surgery and tumorous tissue of his body has been sent for biopsy, to investigate and determine the cause of rare disease. Investigation report will be received within a week.

  • Essa will be undergoing five to six more surgeries, within the next few months, in order to remove further parts of the tumor. Patient will be able to walk within two weeks, after recovering from the operation.

Earlier, Health Department Sindh had constituted  a special medical board comprising of, Prof. Dr. Naushad A Sheikh,  Dr. Faisal, Dr. Shahab Baig, Dr. Mazhar Nizam, Dr. Nasir Zaman and others to examine the patient. The experts then decided that, at least six to seven surgeries would be performed on Essa Palari, as patient is suffering from a rare nerve tumor, Plexiform Neurofibromatosis.

This large tumor has spread to half of patient’s body from his right leg, and needs immediate removal, as it can spread to remaining further parts of his body, or lead towards severe infection. The patient’s family has also turned down the medical board’s offer to get the tumor removed at any private hospital of the city, and said they have complete confidence in CHK’s doctors and staff.

The issue of  this 20 year old male, Muhammad Essa Palari’s unusual disease came into Sindh Government and other authorities’ notice through social media and local social worker Mr. Sarwar Jokhio.
