New Tiktok trend promotes violence against non-burqa clad women, faces severe backlash

Karachi: A new Tiktok reel, that has surfaced social media recently, has been condemned by women across Twitter and other social media platforms for being misogynistic, and promoting violence against women.

The trend depicted several men, creating reels regarding hypothetical scenarios of their encounter with women that do not wear the “burqa”. One particular video was seen to be captioned as follows:

“Burqa nahi pehn rahi thi meine kafan pehna diya”

(She refused to wear the burqa so I covered her in the shroud)

In this particular instance of toxic masculinity, men portray the gross misconduct and insinuate violence towards women not wearing the burqa.

Netizens across all social media platforms, have condemned the video, and have declared it misogynistic, calling it yet another example of how men exert unjust control over the female body
