PharmEvo signs MoU with KU to launch awareness for prevention of diabetes

KARACHI: University of Karachi and PharmEvo Private Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility project entitled 'Discovering Diabetes' signed a memorandum of understanding to create awareness for the prevention of diabetes

The KU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer PharmEvo Syed Jamshed Ahmed inked the MoU documents at the Vice Chancellor Secretariat.

According to the MoU, PharmEvo under its project will provide a mega camp for diabetes awareness which would provide a diabetes risk assessment of employees and students, sugar screening for high-risk patients, BMI test, BP measuring, diet education for diabetic patients, diabetes education for diabetic patients, and executive check-up by a renowned diabetologist for faculty members on regular basis to ensure they are healthy and help in creating awareness among them regarding precautionary measures necessary to prevent the spread of diabetes in society.

On this occasion, the Deputy CEO PharmEvo Syed Jamshed Ahmed stated that the increasing number of diabetes in the Asian region and especially in Pakistan has put the health sector in trouble and one of the reasons for the rapid growth of this disease is the lack of awareness

He mentioned that the students who are studying on campus can be the best source of awareness. He said that recent data has revealed that if any part below the knee of a diabetic patient is amputated, he/she would die in three to five years.

Meanwhile, the KU VC Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi said that in order to prevent and control the spread of diabetes, it is important to promote awareness of the complications and difficulties it creates for human health.

“The tragedy is that despite a large number of diabetic patients in Pakistan, many people are still reluctant to get treatment as well as didn’t care to make a diagnosis whether they have developed diabetes or not, though we often say that prevention is better than cure, we don’t follow it.”

The KU senior medical officer Dr Abid Hassan, KU Dr Akmal Waheed, the Director of Commercial PharmEvo Mansoor Khan, Director of Marketing Abdus Samad, Marketing Manager Agha Sadiq, and Business Units Head Rauf Imam, and others were present on this occasion.
