Sindh registers 6,739 dengue cases  

KARACHI: At least 6,739 dengue viral fever cases across Sindh in 2021 out of the 4,609 registered in the Karachi division alone. 

Dengue fever claimed the lives of 28 people last year due to the mosquito-borne disease, out of which 22 deaths were reported in Karachi alone.  

The statistics issued by Vector-Borne Diseases Department of Directorate General Health Services, Sindh, as many as 6,739 dengue fever cases were detected all over the province from January 1st to December 31st, 2021, out of which 4,609 were recorded in Karachi division, 1374 in Hyderabad division, 624 in Mirpurkhas division, 60 in Sukkur division, 38 in Larkana division, and 34 in Shaheed Benazirabad division. In Karachi and Hyderabad divisions, one hundred thirty-five unspecified/unresponded dengue cases were also recorded. 

In Karachi, out of a total of 4,609, 1143 dengue cases surfaced in District East in 2021, 1140 in District Central, 755 in District Korangi, 657 in District South,499 in District West 284 in District Malir and 131 unspecified/unresponded, respectively.      

A total of 28 deaths were also recorded in Sindh due to dengue fever last year, out of which 22 death were registered in Karachi, 04 in Hyderabad, on each Matiari and Tharparkar.  

In 2021, At least 4,318 dengue viral fever cases had been recorded throughout Sindh, out of which 4,080 were registered in Karachi alone, while three people had also died of this mosquito-borne disease.
