Important diagnostic machines lying idle at CHK

KARACHI: The major diagnostic machines of Dr Ruth Pfau, Civil Hospital, Karachi (CHK), have been lying out of order for two and half years, and hospital administration was unable to repair this vital equipment.   
 
The important diagnostic machines of the Radiology Department like; CT scans and MRI are not operational for two and half years. The incumbent administration of the hospital was unable to get these types of equipment repaired.      

Similarly, modern gamma camera devices and angiography machines have not been functioning at Cardiology Department, CHK, for the last two years. The hospital management was unable to get these costly types of equipment repaired.   

The Dr Ruth K. M. Pfau, Civil Hospital, Karachi, is Sindh's largest teaching hospital where a score of patients is brought every day from different areas of Karachi and rests of Sindh some of them need diagnostic services such as angiography, CT scan, MRI, and gamma camera.

The poor patients are being referred to other public and private sector hospitals due to the non-availability of diagnostic facilities. The private labs charged hefty fees for conducting diagnostics tests that are out of reach of poor patients.    
Dr Noor Muhmmad Somroo, Acting Medical Superintendent, CHK, was not available for comments.
