Dengue Program identifies mosquito pockets in Karachi

KARACHI: The Prevention and Control Program of Dengue (PCPD), Sindh, has identified several mosquito pockets in the city and also launched fumigation in these areas.

The PCPD Sindh has identified mosquito-breeding points in Karachi using the help of surveys, DIMAS software, environmental experts, and entomologists. The PCPD has started fumigation, awareness programs, and larvicidal activities in these high concentration areas.

Program Manager, Prevention and Control Program for Dengue in Sindh, Dr Mehmood Iqbal Memon, said several mosquito pockets had been identified through surveys and other resources in the city.

He notified that areas including Ayesha Manzil, Karimabad, Azizabad, Gulberg were identified as high-risk areas in District Central. Similarly, Kemari, Machar Colony, Ittehad Town, Baldia UC-1, and Gulshan-e-Ghazi were identified as high-risk in District West while Mehmoodabad, PECHS, Jamshaid Quarter, Garden East, Solider Bazaar, Pehlwan Goth, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal UC-5 were noted in District East.

Dr Mehmood Iqbal said that the PCPD teams had started fumigation, awareness sessions, and larvicidal activities in these high-risk areas to prevent Karachi’s citizens from dengue.
