KARACHI- The employees of Sindh Government Children Hospital (SGCH), North Karachi, recently ended their protest demonstration after it went on for 10 days. They resumed their hospital duties and went back to offering health care to general public.

During the protest staged for not releasing funds for salaries and hospital’s maintenance, the staff of Sindh Government Children Hospital (SGCH) had shut down the emergency ward, ICUs, operation theaters and other facilities.

The health facility is being run under public-private partnership through a non-governmental organization, Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI), since September 2016. The staff of hospital including doctors, paramedics, nurses and other administrative officials working under PEI have not been paid their due salaries for the past 03 months.

After around 350 employees, including doctors, nurses and other staff members of hospital, launched a series of protests to attain their financial rights, concerned authorities took notice.

Sources at Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) informed that negotiation between Sindh Health Department and NGO officials were underway, therefore the staff ended their protest.
