Sindh HEC chief Dr Asim has declined to continue on his position

KARACHI: Dr Asim Hussain, Chairman, Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC), refused to command the commission for the third term. According to a statement, he also urged the Chief Minister of Sindh to nominate a permanent head for the commission at the earliest.

On the other hand, Dr Asim Hussain will remain in charge until a new permanent head of the Sindh HEC is appointed.

Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, was briefed by Dr Asim Hussain.

After serving two terms as Sindh HEC chairman, Dr Asim has been on the job since January 26, and he will remain until further notice. According to the Sindh Higher Education Commission Act, any head of Sindh HEC can be chairman of the commission for two consecutive terms. There were reports that the Provincial Assembly might change the act to provide Dr Asim with a third term.

In addition, a summary of this information was provided to the provincial cabinet meeting for approval. After Dr Asim's rejection to serve as chairman, things have shifted. Earlier this week, India's Supreme Court ordered the country's Higher Education Commission (HEC) to shut down unauthorised private university campuses. He refused to serve a third term as chairman of the Sindh HEC during a meeting with Chief Minister Murad, who subsequently asked him whether he would accept the position of the permanent head as soon as it became available.

The education mafia and political parties were after Dr. Asim because they didn't want him working for the HEC. This is why the Sindh Chief Minister was informed, and he refused to serve a third term as chairman.
