PEBS organises medical camp for flood victims

KARACHI: Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS), in partnership with the Pakistan Medical Association and the United Arab Emirates, hosted a free medical camp for flood victims at the Rural Health Center in Tando Ghulam Ali.

Over a hundred thousand temporarily displaced people found shelter in the camp. These people's homes are flooded due to excessive rainfall and flooding.

A competent team of doctors and paramedical personnel from Pakistan Eye Bank Society Hospital & PMA joined forces to provide medical aid, particularly in gastroenterology, skin infections, ophthalmology, gynaecology, paediatrics, and cardiology.

A rapid Diagnostic Laboratory was established to ensure rapid testing of illnesses. In addition, free medications were supplied as part of this relief effort.

The surrounding area of Tando Ghulam Ali, district Badin, was severely destroyed by floodwaters that wreaked havoc on a precarious infrastructure. The population has an urgent need for healthcare facilities. The camp served approximately 3,700 patients, primarily females and children.

People were suffering from diarrhoea, dehydration, fever, malaria/dengue cellulitis, skin&scalp infections, eye & ear infections, anaemia, respiratory & urinary tract infections due to poor hygienic conditions, lack of clean drinking water, and the absence of electricity. Additionally, local physicians and volunteers received much-needed assistance.
