Public Sector Hospitals - Exercise to detect `ghost’ staff continuing

KARACHI- Director Health, Karachi, Dr Zafar Ejaz has said that physical verification of health department’s employees was continuing across the city to identify `ghost’ staff.

He said that the employees’ physical verification will, on the one hand, expose the ghost employees and, on the other, help improve overall performance of health care institutions.

Dr Ejaz said that the physical verification of doctors, paramedics, vaccinators, drivers and other employees was continuing on the directives of higher-ups of provincial health department in different phases and the exercise is aimed at getting rid of `ghost’ employees as well as to improve working of health care facilities in the metropolis.       

According to him, around 133 hospitals, dispensaries and maternity homes, belonging to provincial health department, are functioning in the city.

The second phase of physical verification being conducted under the supervision of Town Health Officers (THOs) is currently under way, while the physical verification of vaccinators and other staff will begin after Eid-ul-Fitr, he added.

He said all the THOs have been directed to check the presence of doctors, paramedical staff and other staff in their respective towns during duty hours.

He was of the view that health delivery system will improve considerably following completion of employees’ physical verification exercise.
