COVID-19 cases again rise in Shangai, people fear food shortages

SHANGAI: As China's "dynamic clearance" strategy targets the highly contagious Omicron COVID-19 variant, a record number of symptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded in Shanghai.

Following scores of COVID-19 infections this month, the city of Xian in northwest China issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid needless travels outside their residential compounds and encouraging businesses to have staff work from home or live at their offices.

According to Xian city officials, the declaration did not constitute a lockdown, and the city would not implement one in response to people's fears about food shortages.
