TIKTOKER DOLLY SETS MARGALLA FOREST ON FIRE

On the 17th of May 2022, Dolly, a Pakistani TikTok celebrity, set fire to a forest in the Margalla Hills. She may be seen performing in front of the blazing fire in the Tiktok video that was posted shortly after.

The scorching summers in Pakistan have caused a ruckus this May. While electricity outage engulfs the whole country in its darkness, people are confused as to what is setting the urban and rural areas of the country on fire.

Shockingly, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and The Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) claim that there were 9,874 fire incidences across Pakistan and India within the 24-hour period between the 9th and 10th of May 2022.

The Incident

Forest fires have been on the rise in Pakistan this summer. However, some forest fires were not precisely due to natural causes.

Margalla Hills on Fire

It is reported that Dolly, a TikTok star in Pakistan, had set fire to a forest in Margalla Hills on the 17th of May 2022. In the Tiktok video posted soon after, she can be seen performing in front of the fire soon after it had been set ablaze with a lighter.

Dr Mohammad Irfan terms Dolly a Criminal

According to Professor Dr Mohammad Irfan, the deliberation of fire at any wildlife habitat is to be considered a criminal act.

CDA To lodge FIR against Dolly

After the incident caused the masses to question authorities, the CDA stepped in to urge Kohsar Police station to carry out an investigation into the matter.

In addition to this, another TikToker in Abbottabad set the woodlands on fire in an attempt to gain views and popularity. The accused has been since taken into custody by wildlife officials.

The Authorities on Margalla Hills Fire Incident

The Margalla Hills National Park has been housing a vast variety of wildlife for the past few decades. Spread over more than 31,000 acres, it has succumbed to many a fire in the past couple of years.

This incident has raised severe anger and disapproval by the masses. The authorities like the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as well the government and The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) have woken from their slumber to speak against these devastating events.

The CDA and IWMB are working together, as mentioned by Rina Saeed Khan, spokesperson for IWMB, to avoid the recurrence of such incidents.

“There are no differences among us [CDA and IWMB]. In February, we held a joint meeting and are now working for fire prevention.”

She had also mentioned that 90% of forest fires in Pakistan were man-made. The CDA and IWMB have employed forest guards to patrol all densely populated wildlife regions in order to avoid forest fires in the future.

A Larger Issue at Hand

Most of the conversation surrounding fire activities in the summers goes unnoticed due to the amount of stubble burning in Pakistan.

Faulty electricity lines have been adding to the number of urban fires in corporate buildings this summer as well.

However, as climate change becomes an inevitability, it is imperative to understand the need for fire prevention in the country. The CDA and IWMB have thus, joined forces to prevent these catastrophic occurrences.

It is, therefore, of utmost importance that the masses help in maintaining wildlife as well as the natural ecosystem as a way to curb the larger issue of Global Warming.
