CEO SHCC Ahson Qavi gives public health message amid rising dengue cases

KARACHI: Dr Ahson Qavi, CEO of the SHCC, provides a health warning amidst growing dengue incidences.

Ahson Qavi enlightened that if a patient has a fever, then a doctor would most probably recommend 3 tests which are:
CBC for platelet counts
NS1 Antigen for dengue
ICT Malaria for malaria

Sindh Healthcare Commission reduced the prices of these tests so people would not have to bear the burden of price hikes, and good health could be promoted.

He stated that management could be done via rest and painkillers like paracetamol. He further noted that being hydrated is essential. Hydration can be maintained by drinking water, having ORS, etc.

Hospitalisation can only be beneficial if the platelet count is drastically reduced. However, most of the cases are mild and do not require hospitalisation.

He requested people to use mosquito repellants and manage the cases in a home in mild cases in consultation with general physicians.
