Karachi: Prominent Philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi on Wednesday said nothing is above humanity in the world and people should extend their role and support in public welfare activities.

He expressed these views while talking to the media during the inauguration of the “Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilquis Edhi Transplant Operation Theatre Complex” held at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). SIUT Director Prof Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Bilquis Edhi and Faisal Edhi were also present at the ceremony.

Edhi said he has served humanity without any discrimination of cast, colour, creed, ethnicity, language or religion his entire life. He said this OT complex would help thousands of needy and ailing patients who will now be able to get their transplant done free of cost, and with dignity.

He urged people to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and to avoid habits like smoking and chewing harmful substances in order to keep diseases at bay. He said that the robbery last week on Edhi headquarter is tantamount to robbery on Pakistan as he is working for the welfare of the country and its people.

Prof Adibul Hasan Rizvi appreciated and lauded this benevolent gesture of Edhi family’s support in building this state-of-the-art surgical theatre complex. He said that the complex would be immense value and benefit to the kidney failure population of the country, providing an impeccable source of a modern and high tech transplantation surgical facilities, for which SIUT is most grateful.

Referring to the recent burglary at the Edhi Foundation, Dr Rizvi said that it reflected the pathetic and deplorable societal values that even people like Abdul Sattar Edhi have also not been spared from such nefarious activities.

He said nowadays the entire society is in a fragmented and degenerated state. Human values are frequently violated without any fear. In these circumstances, people like Mr and Mrs Edhi who have selflessly dedicated their entire lives for uplifting humanity, shine like beacons of hope. They have taken community work, social welfare services and compassion to a whole new level.
