KARACHI- With one more death claimed by dengue hemorrhagic fever, the official death toll has now reached to four in the current season and the officials associated with the Sindh dengue prevention and control programme (DP&CP) apprehend that incidence of the dreaded disease might increase in the fast-approaching monsoon.

According to the officials of DP&CP, a 15-year-old Areej Illyas, who was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi with a high fever, died during treatment. She was a resident of Baldia Town’s Saeedabad.

Preliminary tests suggested that she was suffering from dengue hemorrhagic fever and despite untiring efforts made by doctors to save her life she breathed her last due to complications of the viral infection, the officials said, adding that the number of deaths caused by the disease has increased to four in the current season.

The advised the people to take preventive measures in the upcoming monsoon season when the cases of the disease are expected to increase.

Meanwhile, health experts have lambasted the officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) health department for their failure to eradicate mosquito larvae that resulted in the spread of dengue virus in the metropolis.

They demanded of the senior officials of KMC’s health department to launch sustained fumigation and larvacidal campaigns without any further delay, or else its consequences could be devastating.
