JMDC issues termination warning to House Officers

KARACHI: The university has issued termination warning letter to the medical and dental graduates and present house officers of Jinnah Medical and Dental College in response to their protest against nonpayment.

Sources claim that medical graduates took to the streets to vent their anger with the university administration. The Jinnah Medical and Dental College had chosen to offer their house officers a monthly stipend of twenty-two thousand rupees.

The administration had settled on the remuneration of fourteen thousand rupees for dental house officers. This decision was reached notwithstanding the Supreme Court's directive to provide medical and dentistry graduates with a stipend of at least 45,000 rupees.

After numerous conversations and meetings between the university administration and the students proved fruitless, the students were forced to refuse to work and protest the unjust monetary settlement.

The students have also raised their voices in opposition to the university administration's lack of accountability. 

The MBBS graduates began their home job training on June 1, 2022. On August 15, 2022, the students came to the streets after complaining that despite being awarded a lower stipend than other university colleges, they had not received payments or paycheck slips for the preceding three months.

The pupils made an additional effort to bring their issue to light by filing a complaint with the Pakistan Medical Commission; however, a decision on this matter is still waiting.

In response to the student's efforts to hold JMDC accountable, the institution has sent termination notices to all students who were away from the workplace during the demonstration.

The medical and dentistry graduates of JMDC are upset by the university's unyielding response and helpless in the face of adversity.
