PMA demands immediate announcement of elections of SHCC commissioners

KARACHI: It is a matter of great concern for Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Sindh and specifically doctors of the Sindh Province as they are deprived, by a conspiracy, of attending to their legal and constitutional role as far as the Sindh Healthcare Commission(SHCC) is concerned.

By virtue of the Sindh Healthcare Commission Act 2013, Nine elected Commissioners are supposed to look after the matters of SHCC

The elections for the same were held in July 22 and seven Commissioners were elected as per rules and regulations. According to the Act of 2013, Two members are supposedly nominated by the Chief Minister of Sindh.

After the completion of this process, the elected commissioners were to be notified. But it is very unfortunate that neither the two nominees were inducted nor the electees were notified. It seems that the office of the Chief Minister/ Health Minister are mulling over other options instead of following the simple procedure which is encompassed in the SHCC Act 2023.

PMA Sindh believes that SHCC is functioning in the absence of Constitutionally Elected Commissioners, it is an absolutely illegal and unconstitutional travesty of justice.

The Sindh province can no longer afford strikes and protests by doctors.

PMA Sindh demands an immediate announcement and notification of elections of commissioners, otherwise, a legal process can be initiated against the Sindh Government.
