Monitor your unborn child via smartphone

MASSACHUSETTS: A novel instrument resembling a sticker that can enable pregnant women to track the development of their unborn children has been developed.

Engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed a sticker that can record live, continuous photos of the interior of the body for up to 48 hours. Currently, the team is attempting to connect the live visual stream from the sticker to a smartphone app using artificial intelligence.

Additionally, the sticker might monitor cancer patients' tumours, allowing for early diagnosis and treatments. An ultrasound is required to observe the inside of a person's body. This approach requires enormous, costly equipment and must be performed in a doctor's office.

In addition, because the gel used in ultrasounds dries up rapidly, doctors cannot examine organs for an extended period of time. According to the engineers at MIT, the new stickers would include gel in an air barrier, allowing for up to 48 hours of use.

This innovative technology has ushered in a new age of wearable imaging, according to Professor Xuanhe Zhao, a mechanical engineer at MIT and a member of the team.
