KARACHI: Police and rescue officials reported an explosion in Karachi’s North Nazimabad district has resulted in four people killed and six others, including two women, injured.

Nasir Aftab, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the West Zone, said that the tragic incident transpired at a fuel station near Abdullah College.

The senior officer said that the blast happened at the petrol pump’s electric room, and the neighbourhood sensed the effect. They also confirmed the total deaths and injuries documented at the site. He said that this seemed to be an accident and ruled out any terrorist nature. However, police still requested the bomb disposal squad to establish the nature of the explosion.

“All those killed were men”, said an Edhi spokesperson, who helped shift the dead and the injured to the nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Ayazudin, the station house officer of Nazimabad police (SHO), detailed a “cylinder blast” that had gone off at a Byco petrol station in the Block A section of North Nazimabad.

He identified one deceased individual as Sultan Imran. So far, the others deceased could not be identified, but the official determined that they were aged between 30 to 50-years-old. He also added that two women, Humera Waqar and Alia Humayun, were among the injured alongside four males named Abid Muhammad, Waqar Siddiq, Abdul Waheed and Sohail Ishaq.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the Administrator of Karachi, passed his condolences to those grieving, promising that the police thoroughly investigate the incident. He told the officials to focus on the injured and their healthcare while working on gathering facts himself.
