BMU organises refresher course on Pulmonology

Karachi: A two-day eight hours CME refresher course on ` Pulmolonogy-2015’ was held under the auspices of  Baqai Medical University’s Pulmonology department.

During first day of the course, assistant professor of  Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS)  Dr. Saifullah Beg talked about Sleep-related disorders & their management; Chest Surgeon of  DUHS, Dr. Niaz Soomro highlighted the role of chest surgery in chest diseases; Dr.Waseem Memon of Ziauddin University delivered lecture on “How to read routin chest X-ray”, senior chest physician Dr. Mosavir Ansari discusssed the Interstitial lung diseases, diagnostic criteria and treatment options; associate professor of Pathology, AKUH, presented diagnostic means and tests for tuberculosis, while Dr. Shaheena Qayum from Bridge Consultants discussed the management of  TB, pulmonary and extra pulmonary TB.

During day two proceedings of the course, Professor of Medicine, Ziauddin University, Dr. Sohail Akhtar, talked in detail about Community Acquired Pneumonia; Abbassi Shaheed Hospital’s head of Radiology department Dr. Mubarak Ali highlighted the Indications and use of MRI and CT Scan in chest diseases; Baqai Medical University’s assistant professor Pulmonology Dr. Zafaryab Hussain delivered lecture on Pleural Effussion; associate professor of DUHS’ Pulmonology department Dr. Nisar Rao talked about causes, diagnosis, and management of Bronchogenic Carcinoma; Dr. Naseem Salahudin from Indus Hospital, discussed about causes of MDR Tb and diagnostic criteria, and management of MDR Tb, and how to prevent MDR Tb; AKUH’s associate professor (Pulmonology) Dr. M. Irfan talked about Bronchial Asthma and COPD management as per GINA guidelines. Dr. Akber Shaikh of Baqai Medical University thanked the speakers and participants.
