KARACHI - First polio case of the current year in Karachi has been confirmed in 18-month-old girl, thereby raising polio cases to five in Sindh since January 2015. 
Sources said here on Thursday that the polio case has been confirmed in 18-month-old girl Marryam, daughter of Naimaatullah and a resident of Shafiq Colony (Union Council-8) of Gulberg Town, near Sohrab Goth. The girl, who belongs to Mahsud tribe, originally hails from Waziristan.
They said that the girl is suffering from high grade fever, weakness of both lower limbs, but more severe on right side, after intra muscular injection on both side of buttocks.
The vaccination status zero routine SIAs two doses (one year back, according to her mother), no recent dose as the family now refuses and hide their children, the sources said.
Of the total five polio cases reported across Sindh, so far, two are from Dadu and one each from Karachi, Sukkur and Qambar-Shahdadkot.
