Sukkur: Taking notice of the deaths of four children at the Civil Hospital Khairpur, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali has ordered Khairpur’s deputy commissioner and district health officer to submit a report, mentioning causes behind such deaths.
According to reports, four newly-born babies died due non-availability of oxygen at the Civil Hospital Khairpur within seven hours. Heirs of the children protested and alleged that negligence of hospital staff led to death of their children.
Claiming that non-availability of oxygen caused the deaths, they demanded registration of an FIR against the hospital staff.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Munawar Mitahni, who visited the hospital to ascertain causes behind deaths of children, in his preliminary report said that there was no criminal negligence on the part of doctors and other staff.
He, however, said that the matter was being probed by DHO Khairpur and MS Civil Hospital and whosoever is found guilty will face strict action.
Briefing the DC, child specialist Dr Aftab Lashari and the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Razia Panhwar said that sufficient stock of oxygen was available at the hospital. Dr Lashari said that premature births, infection and being underweight were the reasons behind the deaths.
