Congo Virus Claims Yet Another Life

KARACHI- According to sources at JPMC, a youngster unfortunately died recently, due to deadly Congo Crimean Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Executive Director, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Dr. Seemin Jamali stated that, a teenager Mubin Ahmed, resident of Korangi town, was brought in to JPMC’s emergency department with high grade fever, bleeding from mouth and nose. Patient was immediately shifted to the isolation ward and upon investigation, it was confirmed that he was infected with CCHF.

She explained that the patient worked in a leather factory situated in the industrial area, where he regularly dealt with cattle. Dr. Jamali suspected that the youngster contracted CCHF disease through a tick found on the skin of the animals.

As per records, this was the 4^th Congo Fever patient of year 2018, reported in critical conditions. Two patients, residents of Quetta, both recovered from fever after treatment. Meanwhile, earlier this year, Sadiq Ali, 36 year old resident of Lyari, died at a private hospital of Karachi due to complications of Congo Virus.

Health Experts stated that, Congo Fever is a deadly viral disease that spreads through tick-bites, found on animals. People who deal with dairy farming and livestock are most likely to be affected or become carriers of this disease. Precautionary measures are to be taken when dealing with animals.
