Dengue claims 129 lives in three years across Pakistan

Islamabad: Dengue fever claimed 129 lives while the number of the dreaded fever stood at 32,600 across the country during last three years.

Giving as break-up of dengue fever cases reported and those who died of the disease across the country in the last three years, sources in the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, said in 2013, a total of 20,710 cases were registered and 104 people died; in 2014, around 1,991 cases were registered and 18 patients died, whereas in 2015, the number of dengue cases stood at 9,899 and seven people died of the disease.

During the same period, 14,562 cases and 43 deaths were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to dengue fever; 8,797 dengue cases and 49 deaths were recorded in Sindh; 6,241 cases and 26 deaths were reported in Punjab.

Various measures taken by the ministry for the prevention and control of dengue fever include issuance of advisory, guidelines on dengue fever, provision of free of cost diagnostics and genotyping facilities for dengue cases at NIH, training on rapid response teams in provinces and awareness seminars, the sources added.
