KARACHI - Dr Ahsan Ali, a 50-year-old paediatrician belonging to the Shia community, was recently targeted right outside his clinic near Bismillah Chowk in Saeedabad.
Police said the victim had locked the clinic for the night and just boarded his regular taxicab when two attackers shot him twice. The driver, Abdur Rasheed Tanoli, was fortunate enough to survive.

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where Ali died and Tanoli remains under treatment.

Saeedabad SHO Rafaqat Ali said; The victim was a resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar who was most likely murdered for either his faith or for refusing to pay extortion money. Ali was shot in the head and chest and died on the spot.

Condemnations; Pakistan Islamic Medical Association condemned Ali’s murder in the strong words and termed it indicative of the vulnerability of Karachi’s medical fraternity. At least 17 doctors were killed in Karachi in 2014.
