Dow University organizes workshop on Manuscript Writing and Publishing

Karachi: Dow University of Health Sciences in collaboration with American Society for Microbiology was once again successful in organizing a workshop on ‘Manuscript Writing and Publishing’ today, 28th of October, giving its participants three sessions packed with impressive lectures and take home tips that covered various aspects of scientific writing. About hundred participants from several different institutions of Karachi including Baqai Medical University, Jinnah Sind Medical University, Agha Khan University of Health Sciences, National Institute of Cardiovascular disease, University of Karachi and Liaqat National Hospital participated in the event.

The event began with an inauguration ceremony in which participants were introduced to the upcoming modules of the workshop. The workshop coordinator and Head of Molecular Pathology Dr Saeed Khan gave introduction to the workshop and shed light upon its importance and need. Chairperson department of Pathology, Professor Dr. Talat Mirza not only offered her words of wisdom but also gave useful points regarding manuscript writing and mentioned the contribution of the department. She then introduced and called upon Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, and handed over the stage to her.

Dr. Shahana’s lecture comprised of four modules that explained the complete art of scientific manuscript writing. From literature review to writing result and discussion of one’s research, her presentation not only encompassed various ways of writing scientific literature but also gave various brief pointers to improve and strengthen one’s article even more in order to get it published easily. She insisted that researchers especially amateur scientists, should not feel disheartened if their article is rejected by reviewers, instead they should focus on improving and working upon the weak points highlighted by the reviewers. She encouraged the scientists to share their findings with the rest of the scientific community by writing and submitting their research articles so that others could learn from their work as well.

The lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session in which the participants asked various questions and shared the difficulties they face during writing and publishing scientific articles.

The session was concluded by an impressive ceremony in which participants and organizers were awarded certificates, and guests were presented with beautiful bouquets by the chief guest, the honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed Khan. In the end the Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed Khan shed light upon the event and said that publishing one’s research is as important as carrying out the research itself. He congratulated the chief organizers for successfully arranging the workshop and insisted that such learning and knowledgeable activities should take place every year.
