DUHS Seminar - Dr Atta exhorts varsities to facilitate research work

Karachi: Renowned scientist and a former federal minister Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rehman said the four pillars of a country’s progress - high quality education, science & technology, innovation & entrepreneurship and good governance - offer quick and fair justice, besides allowing merit to prevail.

He was speaking as the guest of honour at a seminar held here under the auspices of Research department of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) at its Ojha campus to mark the “7th Annual Research Day”. The seminar was addressed, among others, by DUHS vice chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, Prof Masroor, Prof Junaid Ashraf, Dr Kashif Shafique.

Underscoring the need for providing a platform to enhance research activities in developing countries, Dr Rehman urged the universities to facilitate research work of their students and faculty members.

Expressing pleasure that the DUHS has been providing research grants to its students and faculty members, he felicitated the research department and Prof Masood Hameed Khan for organizing research activities regularly.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Hameed said that said that the motive behind celebrating the faculty research day is to inculcate the spirit of carrying out quality research work among students as well as the faculty members.

He lauded the Higher Education Commission’s technical and financial support to DUHS for undertaking developmental works.

In his welcome address, Dr Kashif Shafique said that research day was aimed at showcasing the research through posters presentations being conducted by the university’s students and faculty members in 2015 and to serve as a forum for interaction among faculty members.

Of the total of 323 research papers submitted, 77.4 per cent were accepted.
A panel of judges evaluated the abstracts and screened them for final presentation at the Annual Research Day. Among the selected posters, top five were declared winners and these research papers from faculty and students were given the opportunity to present through an oral presentation on the event’s day.
