Environment Festival - Minister voices concern over pollution

KARACHI- Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Fayyaz Ali Butt has stressed the need for creating awareness among children and youth about environmental and health issues.

He was speaking at an `Environment Festival’ held under the aegis of National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) in connection World Environment Day at PAF Museum.

The minister also underscored the need for making collaborative efforts to overcome the issue of environmental pollution.

He appreciated children, students, and teachers who displayed their environmental-related projects and participated in different competitions organized at the festival.

At the outset, the minister lauded the organizers of the event.

NFEH president Muhammad Naeem Qureshi informed the minister that his organization in collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme, Commissioner Karachi, and other relevant commercial and industrial organizations, and NGOs, had chalked out a week-long programme to mark the World Environment Day.

He urged all the concerned departments and organizations to take immediate notice of environmental degradation and play their role in ensuring pollution-free environment.

He regretted that although all major and mainstream political parties in their election manifestoes had given due importance to environmental protection, they failed to take effective measures in this regard.

Later, the minister gave away prizes and distributed certificates among students who participated in different competitions.
