Karachi: The contractor supplying oxygen to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation -run Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) threatened to discontinue supply of the gas to the hospital till clearance of earlier dues.

An administrative official of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital told PPI that contractor supplying oxygen to hospital had warned the administration to clear outstanding dues till 31st December 2015 otherwise supply of oxygen will be stopped from 1st January 2016 to institution.

The management which owed Rs 15 million to the contractors on account of oxygen supply charges has been using delaying tactics in clearing the dues on the pretext that KMC was nowadays facing serious financial crisis.

The contractor warned the hospital's management to clear their outstanding dues or else they will have no choice but to stop supply of oxygen to the hospital.

Official feared that in case contractors stop supplying oxygen to the hospital, the worst sufferers would be the patients requiring ventilators, besides the routine operational work of other departments would also come to a halt.

The ASH, one of the major teaching hospitals of the city, has already suspended supplying meals to its patients and facing shortage of drugs due to KMC's financial crises.

Senior Director Medical & Health Services KMC Dr Salma Kausar was not available for comment.
