GHA peacefully ends protest after government assurance

KARACHI: The Grand Health Alliance (GHA) ended its two-week-long peaceful protest and boycott of OPDs after assurance from Sindh provincial ministers.
A delegation of the GHA comprising of Dr Mehbob Noonari, Dr Waris Jakhrani, Akhlaq Ahmed Khan, Aijaz Kaleri, Atta Rajper, Asad Samtio, Heera Lal, and others met with Sindh Provincial Minister for Education and Literacy and the Sindh Provincial Minister for Local Governments, Syed Nasir Shah. Secretary Health Sindh was also present in the meeting.
The provincial ministers accepted the delegation’s genuine demands and urged the GHA to end the boycott of OPDs and general wards. The delegation comprised of doctors, nurses, and paramedics ended their protest demonstration after assurance from the provincial ministers.
Central Leader of GHA, Dr Waris Jakhrani, said that the Sindh government had accepted almost all the genuine demands put forward by doctors, nurses, and paramedics. He announced that that GHA would end its two-week-long protest, and healthcare workers would return to their duties as per schedule. He congratulated all healthcare professionals of the Sindh Health Department, stating that this was a victory for all employees.
He informed that the Sindh ministers had approved the provision of a high-risk allowance for all medical staff, a Shuhdha package for all martyrs, a separate ward for healthcare workers, and other demands.
