KARACHI: Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) has installed the biometric system so that action could be taken against ghost employees besides ensuring the attendance of college staff on the directive of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)’s administrator - Rauf Akhtar Farooqui.

Through this latest biometric system the identity of employee along with thumb impression and face recognition could be done and would curb any chance of forgery, said a statement  issued recently.

With the installation of this system in College the enrolment of staff was started, to collect and compile all the data of employees. The new system will be implemented in January 2015 after the completion of data collection process by December 2014.

Action will be taken against the staff members who are found not attending their duty or not observing punctuality in office hours. Their salaries will also be withheld. The machine used for this purpose has been provided with the protection of acrylic glass shield to eradicate any chances of its breakdown.

A total of five such machines were put in place and the college faculty and administrative staff was directed to appear with their college identity cards for feeding of their data in this system. While Rauf Akhtar Farooqui the administrative officers of KMDC informed that; ghost or absconding employees would be identified and all details regarding their attending to their duty will be made available.

KMDC has bee,n regarded as a high standard medical institution. That is why the KMC has begun the reform process from here to save this noble institution from any indiscipline or non-punctuality of staff members. It was unfortunate some of the doctors were serving in foreign countries without obtaining the leaves or informing the administration about this. These ghost employees are also getting their salary from KMC, which is absolutely unjust to the citizens.

This system will be implemented at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital also from January 2015, for which work is already underway and then this will be gradually implemented in all KMC departments with its control remaining with the central command and control system, Information Technology department or the payroll section. Thus, only those employees would be eligible to receive their salary who attend their duty punctually.
