LGH to have child survival unit next month

Karachi: Lyari General Hospital’s (LGH) Child Survival Unit being set up under public-private partnership will start functioning from January 2016.

According to sources, specialists would be available at the Child Survival Unit for providing treatment to malnourished babies and children suffering from diphtheria, tetanus, pneumonia and measles, besides counseling of parents of such children will be done by medical experts.

They informed that doctors, skilled nurses and midwives will be available at the unit for examination and screening of new-born babies.


The Child Survival, a non-governmental organization (NGO) had provided necessary assistance to the hospital’s administration for establishing the unit within the premises of the health facility.

Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar is likely to inaugurate the unit next month. 

Lyari General Hospital’s medical superintended Dr Aziz Soomro said all necessary arrangements for setting up child survival unit have been finalized.
