Menace of Encroachment - Minister urges heads of hospitals to retrieve land from mafia

Karachi: Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has directed medical superintendents of public sector hospitals to get the encroached upon land of their respective health facilities vacated from land mafia.

He also urged them to refurbish the official residences and allot them to their doctors and paramedics on priority.

Presiding over a meeting at his office, he said that an anti-encroachment campaign was currently underway and as such the heads of public sector hospitals should take advantage of it by carrying out similar exercise in their respective hospitals.

EPI: The minister on this occasion directed Sindh EPI project director to launch a campaign against viral diseases in April, May and November and around three million pregnant women should be vaccinated during the drive.

He also exhorted the officials to focus their attention towards slums and less privileged areas because viral diseases usually break out in epidemic form in these areas.

He also directed the officials to organize awareness and advocacy seminars in all major cities of the province.

Earlier, the meeting was informed that 12 high risk districts - Badin, Tando Allahyar, TM Khan, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Kashsmor, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Hyderabad and Shikarpur, would be given special attention during the drive.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Secretary Health Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo and PD EPI, Sindh, Dr Agha Ashfaque.
