Moot on Ramadan & Health ends

KARACHI - Jinnah Sindh Medical University’s (JSMU) vice chancellor Prof Tariq Rafi said here that it has been scientifically proved that fasting is beneficial to human health.

He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a 3-day Pakistan International Biennial Conference on “Ramadan and Health” held at the JSMU.

Prof Rafi was, however, of the opinion that patients could have fast but strictly in accordance with the scientific guidelines and doctors’ advice.

He said that recommendations of the conference where national and foreign experts presented their research papers would help the country’s health situation provided they are implemented in letter and spirit.

Doctors and scientists from Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates presented their research papers on the topic of the moot.

Prof Zaman Shaikh of Sir Syed Institute of Diabetes & Endocrinology, Dr Asif Ahmed of Kindney Centre, Dr Wasay Shabbir, Dr Nazli Hussain, also spoke on the occasion.
