Karachi: The PMA has condemned the ruthless murder of 58 year old Dr Shamim at his clinic on the 2nd of December in the Korangi area of Karachi.

A joint meeting of PMA Karachi and PMA Center was held in this regard, presided over by Professor S Tipu Sultan, Ex-President PMA Center. Prominent attendees of the meeting included Prof Idrees Adhi, Dr Khalil Mukadam, Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr Naseer Ahmed Baloch, Dr Qaiser Sajjad, Dr Hamid Manzoor and Dr Qazi M Wasiq among others.
During the meeting, the cold blooded, brutal murder of renowned physician Dr Shamim Raza, a member of the Shia community and the latest victim of target killings, was condemned by all attendees. Dr Shamim was at his clinic when unidentified gunmen entered his clinic, shot him and fled on a motorcycle. He was rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. On the 24th of November, Dr Rubina Khalid of DUHS was also murdered by unknown assailants.

With members of Pakistan’s medical community being openly targeted on daily basis, the Government has not taken any steps to ensure the safety of these professionals, or to identify and arrest the culprits. The PMA Karachi and Center have implored Chief Minister Sindh, Federal Interior Minister, DG Rangers and IG Police to show vigilance, arrest the criminals and maintain law and order in the city for the safety of all medical professionals.

The Publisher, editor and staff members of Medical News Pakistan offer deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray to God to grant the deceased a place in Heaven, and to give the family enough courage to bear this irreparable loss.
