KARACHI - Pakistan Stroke Society, Pakistan Society of Neurology and Neurology Awareness and Research Foundation jointly held a three-day 7thNational Stroke Conference at Aga Khan University Hospital recently, where national and international experts presented their papers and shared experiences regarding neurological disorders.

Senior neurologists told the press conference that although their national stroke conference was focused on the causes, prevention and treatment of stroke but other neurological disorders including Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy were also discussed by the experts.

Dr. Abdul Malik of Pakistan Stroke Society informed that 30 papers on stroke and other neurological disorders were read at the three-day conference by the national and international experts and added that national guidelines on treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other disorders were also issued at the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, another Neurologist Dr. Naila Shahbaz deplored that there was little acceptance of the stroke among people in Pakistan, especially women and she urged them to keep themselves away from the risk factors causing stroke including hypertension, diabetes and use of tobacco.

On the occasion, senior neurologists reiterated their demand to the government for paying attention on treatment of stroke by establishing stroke units at the district hospitals and major hospitals in the country to protect the lives of the people.
