Karachi: Federal Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Saira Afzal Tarar said the reputation and economy of the country is currently at stake with Polio cases still present in Sindh.

She said that Government has decided to take merciless action against those who will show negligence in anti-polio campaign.

Addressing a meeting held to review the current Polio situation in Sindh at the Chief Secretary Office earlier this week, Saira Afzal said that there is a definite need to ensure routine immunization particularly in very high risk 11 UCs of the city. She said that federal government in collaboration with the provincial government is committed to provide foolproof security to teams of inoculators.

She further stated that there was no way to justify even a single polio case in the province, and that the three other provinces had taken strict measures in this regard; evaluation of environmental samples from the cities of these provinces that had previously tested positive for the Poliovirus were now negative.

On the behalf of Prime Minister, she also offered complete support to Sindh Government in the Polio eradication campaign.
