Only MRI Machine Breaks Down, NICH

KARACHI- Sources at National Institute of Child Health (NICH) informed Medical News that the only MRI machine at NICH has been lying uselessly ever since it broke down three months ago. The administration has been unable to get it repaired.

The MRI machine is used to diagnose a wide range of conditions in children, caused due to injury, illness or congenital abnormalities.

At NICH, patients were charged Rs1000 per MRI scan. For the last three months patients are having to visit private facilities for MRI, paying hefty amounts for it. The pediatric patients of the hospital with variety of brain, chest, abdomen, and other chronic diseases are being referred to private laboratories.

Director, National Institute of Child Health, Prof Syed Jamal Raza was not available for comments.
