Orientation of PG researchers held at DUHS

KARACHI- An orientation session for the new batch of Postgraduate Research Programme-2016 was held at Dow International Medical College, OJHA campus.

The session attended by the senior faculty members began with an introduction and brief overview of the curriculum and teaching methodology to the new entrants.

Vice Dean of Dow University of Health Sciences’ (DUHS) School of Public Health Dr. Kashif Shafique gave a brief overview of functions, procedures and policies of research department.

He said that the number of publications had increased manifold in the last 11 years, while the university was also providing research grants to students for undertaking research work.

Prof Dr. Junaid Ashraf, Chairman PG department informed that the Dow University’s PG department is functioning under the supervision of the Institute of Postgraduate Students. The department, he added, also deals with admissions, besides having a liaison with the regulatory authorities for recognition of the programmes.

In his welcome address, founder vice chancellor of DUHS, Prof Dr. Masood Hameed Khan, briefed the participants about the university’s aims and objectives which include academic excellence, human resource development and community healthcare services.

Talking about human resources development, he said that university since its establishment had been endeavouring to develop human resources for providing better healthcare services to the community.

Underscoring the need for transfer of knowledge to the young scholar, he said that the newly-selected postgraduate scholars must realize the importance of research as by doing so we will be able to find solutions of our problems.

The director IBMS, Prof Masood Anwar Qureshi, said that the university’s teaching process is of international standards.
