Karachi: Training of nurses and paramedical staff, key to safe infusion, this was stated by Dr Muhammad Anwar Associate Prof & Laparoscopic Paediatric Surgeon NICH while speaking during the health session on Jimmy’s message. Jimmy’s message is for health professionals that “Don’t prick IV bottle as it can spread hepatitis”. The program was organized by Otsuka Pakistan in collaboration with Savior Club.


Speaking on the occasion Dr Anwar said that training of nurses and other paramedical staff should be done on regular basis. He said that patient safety with ethical medical practice is very important because spreading of many deadly disease are due to poor sterilization and hospital acquire infection.


Dr Anwar urged the need for proper mechanism of sterilization, destruction of syringes and hospital wastages as this can reduce the risks of needle injury and spreading of deadly diseases like hepatitis.


He said that spreading of deadly diseases and incidents of needle injuries are due to lack of proper technical training of paramedical staff. He said that poor nursing care and shortages of paramedical staff is the cause of increase in incidents of needle injury due to heavy workload.


Dr Anwar lauded the efforts of Savior Club in creating awareness against spreading of hepatitis and other deadly diseases. Dr Anwar highlighted the importance of composition of IV fluid for balance electrolyte during surgical procedure specially in pediatrics. He acknowledged the new composition under international scientific guidelines in IV solution from Otsuka’s is a gift for health professional in critical conditions.


Marketing Manager Muhammad Arshad Khan said that Otsuka is committed to providing qualitative products at affordable price to the patients. He said that Otsuka launches the new compositions to fulfill the need of medical community. He said that foundation of Savior Club in early 2000 was initiated by Otsuka team on the suggestion of a very senior professor. In the end Dr Anwar performed the lucky dip and Dr Asad Sikandri declared the lucky winner for the month of March.
