MN Report

KARACHI- Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that a number of measures were being taken to bring an end to the incidence of power and gas thefts in public sector hospitals.

Referring to demands of health department’s employees, he said that all their genuine demands would be accepted, but the employees will have to adopt a civilized way of protest so that patients might not suffer on account of their irresponsible behaviour.

Speaking to a group of media persons in his office, the minister said that all heads of institutions have been instructed to help resolve problems being faced by employees of their respective health facilities on priority.
With regard to deadly Naegleria fowleri disease, which had already claimed at least seven precious lives, he said that former president Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari have also directed all the concerned departments to take preventive measures to save people from becoming victim of the lethal disease.

Besides, Sindh chief minister was personally monitoring the situation, he added.

To another query, the minister said that the provincial health department had written letters to heads of all concerned departments in April, asking them to take preventive steps against Naegleria fowleri and had also set up isolation wards in public sector hospitals.

The only way to protect people from this fatal disease is to ensure that water being supplied to them was properly chlorinated, he opined.
