Islamabad: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to take strict action against a number of unauthorized dental and medical colleges across the country.

According to the Council officials, it is henceforth mandatory for all doctors to display official registration certificates issued by the PMDC at their hospitals and clinics. It was further stated that dental and medical professionals only having basic qualifications of their respective subjects are not permitted to perform specialized or complex procedures.

The officials also stated that individuals having a postgraduate degree in medicine or dentistry are the only professionals officially authorized to work as specialists. They added that in order to ensure that these rules are being followed on national level, inspection visits of hospitals and clinics will be conducted without prior notice by the PMDC.

It was also stated that mentioning postgraduate qualifications along with training institutes in PMDC registration certificates will soon be made mandatory for all medical and dental professionals. In order to verify that they do indeed possess the necessary training and specialization skills, postgraduate students will be required to provide PMDC with their training transcripts.

Strict action will be taken on immediate basis against any individual practicing with unofficial degrees or without PMDC certificates. The Council has therefore advised all dental and medical professionals to abide by the set rules in order to avoid legal issues.

The Council has also decided that availing official credit hours by CME will be made mandatory for all doctors so that they may remain well equipped with the latest research and developments in their respective fields.
