PWA holds grand fund-raising event

KARACHI-  An impressive fund-raising annual carnival `Bake n Sale’ was organised by Patients Welfare Association (PWA)  of Dow Medical College.

The funds generated through the event will be used for providing free medical facilities to poor patients at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s president Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra was the chief guest on this occasion. People belonging to different walks of life, including doctors, students and celebrities, visited the event.

A large number of stalls of handicrafts, foods, photo-booth, games, flowers, balloons and live graffiti designing on shirts were set up at the carnival by students of DMC.

Highlighting the aims and objectives of the PWA, a volunteer said that the PWA had been organising its `Bake n Sale’ event annually to raise funds for the welfare of underprivileged patients as well as for expanding the health facilities free of cost.

The PWA is a non-political, non-governmental organization (NGO) and it was being run  voluntarily by the students of DMC since 1979 within CHK for providing free of cost medical services to the poor patients of the hospital through its blood bank with an annual output of around 90,000 screened blood bags, TB and general follow-up with over 300 registered patients, Thalesemia services with 275 registered patients, drug bank  and diagnostic lab, catering to the needs of countless patients every day.

The event was attended, among others, by Aftab Ahmed Diwan, Tariq Shafi, Junaid Shekha and Siddiqui Sheikh.
